CURE Network was incorporated in the summer of 2010 by Kenneth S. Nelson, MD and Rama D. Jager, MD, MBA, FACS who share a vision of addressing an unmet need—to provide access to vision, dental and other specialty medical services often unavailable to underserved individuals in the greater Chicagoland area. Although a small number of free clinics in the area offer dental and vision services to their patients, many of these individuals remain on waiting lists for an extended period of time due to limited provider resources. With this in mind, Dr. Jager and Dr. Nelson set forth to create an organization whose main purpose is to provide free access to these unmet healthcare services through specialty medical care clinic programs held throughout the Chicagoland area and provide an entry point into a medical home for those underserved in need of that service.
In early 2010, Dr. Jager recruited undergraduate students from the University of Chicago to assist with the formation of CURE Network. Their efforts focused on research, web site development and the formation of a clear message about CURE Network’s mission. During the summer of 2010, Drs. Jager and Nelson continued to spread CURE Network’s message throughout their networks and formed an advisory board of Chicago area medical, non-profit and corporate professionals interested in and dedicated to furthering the mission of CURE Network.
